Denise Blumer was born in Rio de
Janeiro, Brazil. During her formative years, opposing political attitudes
conflicted in her immediate familial surroundings and exerted powerful
influences on her highly inquisitive mind.
Her formal training in arts comes
from the School of Fine Arts – Federal University in Rio de Janeiro.
As a professional, she held a
highly respected position (1982-95) as costume designer for Rede Globe,
the premier Brazilian TV network, world-class masters in the field of
televised dramatic art. She frequently designed for the Theatre and for
the Cinema as a freelance agent, on various separate occasions.
Her personal life was tragically marred in 1991 by the
accidental death of her two teenage children in a motor vehicle accident.
Adjustment led her away from Brazil, and from her successful costume
designing career into this new life-as-a-painter in Zurich, Switzerland.
As might be expected, Denise does not easily reduce by affiliation to any
formal school of painting. The closest one may come to, is to call her
painting expressionist. Denise draws from an entirely inner inspiration,
with an uncanny intuition for tackling challenges. The primeval Brazilian
soul is never at rest in her.
