Alois
Carigiet was born on 31.8.1902 in Trun GR. From 1918 to 1923, he made an
apprenticeship as painter and decorator in Chur and for the next 16 years
he worked in Zurich as industrial artist and scene-painter. During this
time he created his first lithographs.
In 1945
he created his first world famous children book „Schellenursli“, more
were to come. His first extensive solo exhibitions took place in 1948 in
Solothurn and then in the Musée de l’Athénée in Geneva. During the
following years he created, amongst paintings, drawings and lithograhps
also several frescos, for example the one in the conference room at the
Chamber of the Parliament in Chur, called „Zusammenschluss der drei Bünde“.
From
1960 to 1975, many other exhibitions in Switzerland and abroad followed.
In 1977, for his 75th birthday, the first volume of his
monograph was presented and an extensive exhibition of his artwork took
place at the Seedamm Kulturzentrum in Pfäffikon. Alois Carigiet died on 1st
of August 1985.
